TCDD – Tailor Made Turkey Rail Tours
The Republic of Turkey’s State Railways have an old, but impressive network. High-Speed lines connect Ankara with Istanbul, Konya, and Eskisehir. But the true gem of the Turkish Rail Network is its sleep trains which start in Istanbul, travel to Ankara, and then go on to Kars, Diyarbakir, and Lake Van.
We love the train. We think it’s comfortable, reasonably priced, safe, and excellent. The only negative is the food quality in the restaurant car has fallen. This can be negated by taking bread, cheese, and onion, chillies and tomato with you. You are usually welcome to slice your veggies and place them next to the acceptable Kofte and then drop a slice of cheese and red pepper on the top. Hey presto, a low-range Kofte becomes really rather good. If you fancy a beer, bring it with you and have a cool one in your cabin before dinner, for the trains are now dry.
